State Enterprise "Posta Moldovei" was founded on 1 April 1993, as a result of division of postal communications sector from telecommunications one. It is the national operator in the field of postal services, represented by the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications. Posta Moldovei is the largest operator of this kind in Moldova and offers a wide range of postal and financial services throughout the country, having a territorial network of 1146 offices and postal agencies, 37 branches, providing postal services in 1527 localities of the country.

On 16 November, 1992, Republic of Moldova became a plenipotentiary member of the Universal Postal Union, thus forming with other member states a single postal territory. Since then, S.E. "Posta Moldovei"has adhered to a number of international bodies, such as the Telematics Cooperative and EMS Cooperative within the framework of UPU, PostEurop (Association of European Public Postal Operators), Regional Commonwealth in Communications, actively participating in meetings and seminars organized by them, which aim to improve the quality of postal services provision at national and international level.

"Posta Moldovei" is strategically oriented towards broadening the range of services by implementing non-traditional services, ensuring the quality of their provision, implementing new forms and methods of servicing customers based on implementation of advanced technologies, thus ensuring its business profitability.
